Czapek Celebrates 10 Years with the Time Jumper

There comes a moment in contemporary haute horlogerie when technique ceases to be mere function and becomes a language of its own. That is precisely the territory Czapek explores with the new Time Jumper, unveiled to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Maison’s revival. It is neither a nostalgic exercise nor a simple display of mechanical virtuosity, but rather a project that attempts to reinterpret the very concept of time display.

A Retro-Futuristic Presence on the Wrist

The first impression is that of an object suspended somewhere between retro-futurism and 1970s science fiction. The 40.5 mm steel case features soft lines and deliberately theatrical architecture, giving the watch a distinctly unconventional presence. At the center of the stage is the “half-hunter” cover, engraved with a three-dimensional guilloché motif that creates an almost hypnotic visual effect, reminiscent of a cosmic vortex.

The solution is not purely aesthetic: the cover allows the time to be glimpsed through a domed central lens, transforming the act of reading the time into a gesture of discovery. Pressing the button at 6 o’clock opens the cover and fully reveals the skeletonized movement beneath the sapphire crystal. A small mechanical ritual.

The Jumping Hour

The technical heart of the project is the “jumping hour” display. Yet even here, Czapek avoids the most predictable route. The hours are displayed through two sapphire discs, one for the units and one for the tens which jump instantaneously in a 24-hour format. The minutes, meanwhile, travel along a peripheral ring.

Visually, the result is striking: there are no traditional hands, yet the time remains readable and intuitive. It is one of the rare occasions in which an alternative display does not feel like a purely stylistic exercise.

A New Mechanical Direction

Calibre 10.01 also represents a shift in direction for the manufacture. After nine movements inspired by the classical tradition of haute horlogerie, this new project introduces a more experimental and modular philosophy. The automatic movement uses a central rotor crafted from recycled 950 platinum, skeletonized to leave space for the architecture beneath.

The finishing, however, remains deeply rooted in haute horlogerie: rhodium-plated bridges, blackened surfaces, diamond-beveled five-spoke wheels, and engravings filled with Super-LumiNova. 75% of the components are produced in-house, while collaborations with specialized artisans such as Metalem are maintained for elements like the guilloché work.

Independence as a Cultural Value

In recent years, Czapek & Cie has built a distinctive reputation among independent watchmaking enthusiasts. Across forums and collector communities, the brand is often described as one of the most compelling names in contemporary indie horology, thanks to a rare balance of high-level finishing, distinctive design, and limited production.

The Time Jumper appears determined to reinforce precisely this identity: rather than competing directly with the aesthetic codes of the great historical maisons, Czapek has chosen to create its own autonomous narrative universe. The steel version is limited to 100 pieces, while the 3N yellow gold edition will be produced in only 30 examples, with pricing starting at CHF 42,000 before taxes.

And perhaps this is the best way to celebrate an anniversary: not by looking backward, but by using memory as a springboard toward something entirely new.
