Founded in 1960 in Japan, the Grand Seiko watchmaking manufacture benefits from a know-how based on discretion, simplicity and perfection in every detail.
Behind a refined design inspired by the beauty of the Japanese natural environment, excellent manufacture movements and exceptional precision are unveiled.
Timepieces assembled and adjusted by hand by master watchmakers that will appeal to true lovers of fine watchmaking.
The Grand Seiko Style, defined in 1967, is a design language focused on the idea of “sparkle with quality” and accurately reflects the Brand's essential characteristics: precision, beauty, legibility and ease of use.
It is based on three basic design principles, according to which each watch should have two-dimensional curves and flat, distortion-free surfaces, presenting a mirror polish, thanks to the Zaratsu technique, which increases the contrast between light and shadow.
In Japan, shadow is valued just as much as light, which is why the Grand Seiko Style focuses on straight lines and flat surfaces that together achieve a structural design with endless expressions of light and shadow, conveying a typically Japanese aesthetic taste.
Based on these 3 principles, nine design elements emerge that guide the creation of every detail of Grand Seiko timepieces.
In accordance with the most stringent standards of Grand Seiko's manufacturing philosophy, every single detail from development, design and manufacture, to assembly and adjustment is masterfully and meticulously carried out in-house, even inspection and shipment are scrupulously followed in the same vein and with the same attention.
The Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi is located in the prefecture of majestic Mt. Iwate, while the Shinshu Watch Studio is surrounded by the beautiful mountains and lake of the same name.
In these idyllic places for the soul, three movements are created with the utmost craftsmanship:
- The mechanical movement, from Hi-Beat 36.000 to 28.800, represents the highest precision of time
- The Spring Drive movement, combining mechanical and electronic watchmaking, embodies the best of both and reproduces the continuous flow of time
- The quartz movement, marking the passage of time, second by second, expresses a mighty precision.
