With a limited production of about 900 timepieces per year, F.P.Journe wanted to offer an even more exclusive timekeeper that would be available only for owners of an F.P.Journe watch. With a case made in platinum, the most precious metal, F.P.Journe has created a distinguished black dial that personalizes even further the elegance of the brand watches. The Black Label collection was born.
With his own dial factory, François-Paul Journe has no other limit than that of his imagination. He has applied his label Invenit et Fecit on each one, certifying an authentic calibre, entirely invented, produced and assembled in the workshops of his central Geneva manufacture.

F.P.Journe presents the new lune: a more visible reading of the time and a date twice as large.
The F.P.Journe Lune has a mechanical movement with automatic winding, manufactured in 18k rose gold, built on the exclusive calibre octa 1300.3. It has made its mark as the first automatic movement with a power reserve sufficient to insure precision timekeeping for over five days or 120 h (effective power reserve: 160 h ± 10 h). It is wound unidirectionally by the exclusive off-centre F.P.Journe rotor in 22k 5n gold, using a self-locking ball bearing system for unequalled efficiency. Every infinitesimal movement of the wrist is thus maximally exploited for an optimised winding of the watch. The variable inertia balance wheel ensures an optimum yield that offers an irreproachable stability.
The F.P.Journe Lune’s two dials are made of 18k gold. The off-centre dial, with gold hour numerals surfaced with a diamond tool, is encircled by a polished steel ring that is screwed to the second dial, one of the brand’s signatures. The main dial features a very large aperture for the date, a retrograde power reserve indication with a 120-hour scale as well as the moon phases.
The moonphase complication offers a link to ancient times, when the full moon was the only source of light during the night and instrumental in navigation and the rise of civilization. While today we no longer depend on moonlight for navigation, the moonphase remains one of the most poetic of all complications, giving an alternative perspective of the passage of time.
A specific wheel train allows precise moon phase indications. Adjusting the indications is done via the crown, which makes it very easy to use.
The Lune was awarded the prize “best men’s watch” at the Geneva Grand Prix d’Horlogerie in 2003.
